The forest that I’m maintaining now used to be used to cut the trees for charcoal or plant the trees for building timber.
People in Japan lived together with the forests or mountains making good use of them.
Nowadays we don’t have a lot of needs for charcoal or building timber any more however, and it seems like it’s getting more and more difficult to live together with the healthy forests.
What happens when the forests or mountains are not used any more is that nobody comes there and they get utterly neglected, and it becomes hard for anybody to get in.
That’s what’s actually happening to many of the Japanese forests and mountains.
And some of the owners of the forests or mountains get to think that there is no point to have it being as it is and try to make some money out of it by cutting so many trees at once and putting so many solar panels on them or accepting construction waste soil or garbage to put there, which is leading to a natural disaster such as landslides by heavy rain.
I think we need to come up with ways that fits with the times to make good use of it to live together with healthy forests.
It is proven that forests relax people and decrease their stress, and I believe that one of the ways to make good use of the forests is to soothe the mental health of the people in modern stressing society.
It’s also good physically to walk or run in the forest addressing their lack of exercise in sedentary lifestyle.
In order to use the forest in this way, I’m making walkways using fallen trees and branches now.
I’ll keep this kind of work to make the forest a comfortable place to visit. 🙂
