Started Growing Shiitake Mushrooms on Logs in the Forest

Shiitake mushrooms are broadly classified into two types:

those grown on logs and those grown on artificial beds.

The ones grown on artificial beds are planted with shiitake mushroom spawn on substrates such as sawdust and are grown in facilities.

On the other hand, shiitake mushrooms grown on logs are planted with shiitake mushroom spawn on 1-meter-long logs made from trees cut down and are grown naturally in the forest.

Both types of shiitake mushrooms are delicious, but the ones grown on logs have a strong aroma and some of them are particularly tasty.

Since we have logs available and a suitable environment for the mushrooms to grow, we decided to give it a try!

We cut the logs, which we had cut down and dried for a month, into 1-meter lengths and drilled holes into them.
Then, we used a hammer to insert the shiitake mushroom spawn into the holes.

Logs-grown shiitake mushrooms can vary in both aroma and taste, so I hope I can produce delicious ones.

However, since this is my first attempt,

I’ll be happy as long as I can grow some mushrooms, regardless of their quality. 🙂
